Happy Labor Day

According to the US Department of Labor, Labor Day “is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievement of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.”

For more than 100 years we have celebrated Labor Day this first Monday in September. It is an odd day to work…this “workingman’s holiday.” With so many taking a break from work it is a slow day in news. Many of the stories we cover are about the last days a summer before really hitting the books, starting a fall schedule and the coming of a new season.

Being on the desk on a holiday gives you a great chance to catchup on things behind the scenes. It is one of the few days when the plan really goes exactly as it was created giving you time for all the odds and ends taken care of. I guess for “the core” it is a lot like a spring cleaning day…or fall cleaning day as the case may be. :)
