Idol Bowl

Like many women in America I geared up to watch my first and last football game of the season on Sunday. For me the Super Bowl isn’t about which team is playing, but more importantly I watch for the entertainment...especially the National Anthem. Being the American Idol fan that I am, I was absolutely thrilled that last year’s winner Jordin Sparks was scheduled to officially begin Super Bowl XLII. For Jordin this performance was crucial, why because she holds the title of lowest first week sales in Idol history, with her self-titled debut album.

As the time approached for the game to begin, my friends and I couldn’t figure out by the looks of them who was more nervous the players or Jordin. Finally, she hits the stage, or should I say the field to begin singing, looking as stunning as ever. My friends and I are in pure silence as we listen to her produce what seems to be a crystal clear performance. I thought to myself wow, she’s not missing a note, I knew I voted for her for a reason. And then, I said aloud “is she lip-synching?” Sure enough the next time the camera hit her, her voice was doing one thing and her lips were doing another. I couldn’t believe it, why would she lip-sync with millions of people watching her? Or maybe she didn’t. This seems to be a much talked about topic on the internet today.

I obviously have my opinion on rather Jordin sang live or not, now I’m curious to hear yours.

Until Next Time,
Dominique

I thought it was live and absolutely amazing!  Of course,I could be wrong...she did look nervous but she belted it out.  Please keep us updated on what the truth really is.

I am usually pretty good at spotting lip-sync, and I don’t think she did.  There were subtleties in her voice and performance that seemed to match.

I think there was a slight audio delay in the feed though, and I think that’s what made it seem like lip-sync.  This occurs sometimes in live concert performances on TV.  If you pay attention on American Idol, you can see examples of this.  For instance, when the singing is straight ahead singing into the main camera, everything looks fine.  Then when they cut to a crowd shot, the crowd sometimes looks like their clapping their hands and singing along off beat, as if they’re 1/2 a second behind.  Well they’re watching it live in person, so I’m sure they’re hearing it right.  The reason is because some of them cameras run through a separate feed to correct the natural audio/video delay that occurs with live concert performances.

It’s a tricky science to be sure.  And I think Fox slipped up last night.  I don’t think Jordin lip-synced, and she did an OK job with the song.

On a side note… singers can keep trying their best each year… but none of them can top the greatest National Anthem performace ever!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYhio8EXdWA&feature;=related

Still gives me goose bumps to this day.  Coincidentally, this was also the last Super Bowl that the New York Giants won.  Ha!

I thought she did very well… I think it was just inconsistencies with the camera/audio.

If she was lip syncing last night… she did a much better job than that Doritos Comercial chic who sounded horrible and lip synced even worse!!!

I didn’t catch the opening performance, but I thought Tom Petty was awesome!

I’m thinking it may be feedback from the audio & her mic. I’m not expert though.

Tom Petty was great too, except that some of his performance was cut...oh well.
