Where’s Penn?
Today, I received a message asking where’s Penn? Here’s the message:
“I read in the N&O that Penn Holderness is joining the NBC17 sports staff. I thought he was to begin yesterday, 7/9, but I was unable to watch last night. I did notice that his bio is not on the website, nor does the website mention him joining the staff. What’s the real story?“
Yesterday was his first day on the job. As many of you undoubtedly know, the first day on any job is usually filled with paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork. It’s what I refer to as the HR thing.
Beyond the paperwork, anytime we have a new reporter or anchor join the team, we usually allow them to get acclimated for a few days before they appear on air.
We are putting the finishing touches on his bio and hope to have it on our website by the end of today. As for when you can expect to see Penn… I can tell you he is very excited to be on air. If he says he’s ready, you may very well see his on-air debut on tonight’s newscast.
That’s the real story.

Hello Jason again:
Thanks for the heads up on Mr. Penn.
I have a question for Mr. Penn and that is:
Why isn’t channel 17 covering the National USA Speed Roller Sports event out of Omaha Nebraska that is currently now in process?
Several North Carolina residents are in it representing our state…
My grandaughter, Erin Tackett is one of the racing contestants. She is 8 years old and in the Primary Girls group. She has at this point in time…came in first place in all of her events…she is definitely not the only North Carolinian that is doing well.
Check it out on their live video feed…from Omaha Nebraska…at. usarollersports.org.
Thanks again Jason for the infor.
Peace
Tonie Wallace
